Rorschach Indications of Emotional Instability and Susceptibility to Motion Sickness.

چکیده
HE PROBLEM of susceptibility to motion sickT ness has not captured the imagination of psychological thinkers. It is, however, of continuing interest to experimenters involved in studies of disorientation and vestibular functioning. Almost all studies of motion sickness and disorientation have alluded to “underlying personality factors” as contributing something to the variance, but investigators have usually not included such factors in the variables studied. These personality factors have gone largely undefined l2 and unrelated to the more important physiological processes. Individual differences in susceptibility to motion sickness have been noted by many investigators.’, 4, Some have attributed these differences to the presence of anxiety,’” or to physiological differences t i or other unspecified psychological phenomena. The present study explored some of the relationships, in subjects with normal function of the vestibular organs, between certain aspects of personality, as measured by the Rorschach test, and susceptibility to experimentally induced

Unusual presentation of motion sickness: Case report
Introduction: Motion sickness is a normal response to real. Perceived or anticipated movement. Although the prognosis is excellent it may be incapacitating for people with an occupation that requires constant movement, such as a flight attendant, pilot, astronaut, or ship crew members. The symptoms progresses from initial dizziness to vomiting. Fortunaterly most symptoms disappear once the stim...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of a Selected Exercise Training Course on the Motion Sickness in Pilots and Flight Crew Members of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Background and Aim: Motion sickness is a natural and temporary response to unfamiliar motor stimuli which reduces performance in complex tasks that require constant attention. The aim of this research was to study the effect of a special exercise training period on motion sickness in the pilots and flight crews of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Methods: In this study, 20 pilot studen...
متن کاملVisually Induced Motion Sickness Predicted by Postural Instability
We investigated whether postural instability can predict motion sickness and studied relations among instability, motion sickness, and vection. Nine men and 4 women (mean age = 19.85 years) were exposed, while standing, to an optical simulation of body sway. Head motion was recorded using a magnetic tracking system. Postural instabilities were observed prior to the onset of motion sickness. Vec...
متن کاملPostural instability precedes motion sickness.
We evaluated the hypothesis that postural instability precedes the onset of motion sickness. Subjects standing in a "moving room" were exposed to nearly global oscillating optical flow. In the experimental condition, the optical oscillations were a complex sum-of-sines between 0.1 and 0.3 Hz, with an excursion of 1.8 cm. This optical motion was of such low frequency and magnitude that it was so...
متن کاملEffects of Duration of Immersion in a Virtual Reality Environment on Postural Stability
Few studies have been carried out to examine the relation between postural stability and subjective reports or feelings of motion sickness. Two views seem to exist on the relation between immersion in a virtual reality (VR) environment and subjective feelings of motion sickness. One predicts that the immersion induces both postural instability and motion sickness. Another view is that preimmers...
